Name : Irpinia Aglianico DOC
Historical notes: as you can guess from the name, this vine has Greek origins. In fact, it was the Greeks who introduced it into the provinces of Campania at the time of the foundation of their colonies along the Tyrrhenian coast. Grapes: 100% Aglianico, Soil : mainly clayey. Planting density : on average 4000 vines per hectare. Production area: Irpinia hills between Mirabella, Castelfranci and Montemarano. Exposure : South-East. Altitude: 400/550 m asl Training system: espalier with spurred cordon pruning. Vineyard age : 15 years on average. Yield per hectare : about 70/75 quintals. Harvest period: from the last ten days of October to the first ten days of November. Refinement: in large barrels for six months, in bottles for about six months. Color : ruby red. Smell : the scent is delicate and recalls red fruits such as blackberries, black cherries, blueberries, currants and ripe plums with notes of licorice, pepper and coffee. Taste: dense and tannic with a berry aroma. Recommended pairings: it goes well with soups, meat dishes, game, fresh and aged cheeses.
