Historical notes : this vine variety has Greek origins. In fact, it was the Greeks who introduced it into the provinces of Campania at the time of the foundation of their colonies along the Tyrrhenian coast. The etymology of the name "Taurasi" is to be found in Taurasia, a small wine village that the Romans conquered after defeating the Irpinia in 80 AD. C. Grapes: Aglianico 100% Soil : loamy-sandy. Planting density : 5000 vines per hectare. Production area: Irpine hills located in the municipality of Mirabella Eclano. Exposure : West. Altitude: 450/650 m above sea level Training system: espalier with spurred cordon pruning. Vineyard age : 20/25 years. Yield per hectare: about 65/70 quintals. Harvest period: first ten days of November. Maturation: In oak barriques for a period of about 24-25 months. Refinement: In the bottle for a period of 10/12 months before being marketed. Color : ruby red with garnet reflections. Smell : hints of tobacco, wood, freshly roasted coffee, cocoa. Taste: dry, robust and tannic. Recommended pairings: ideal with roasted red meats, game, spicy dishes or truffles, hard and aged cheeses.
